As Virginia Tech alumni, Pam and Jay Winkeler were delighted when two of their triplet daughters decided to go to their alma mater. With Hokie daughters Amber and Ashley, the Winkelers were recognized as Virginia Tech’s 2017 Family of the Year during Spring Family Weekend.
The Lomaka family was recognized during Spring Family Weekend for their dedication, support, love, and sacrifice, as their history-making quadruplets graduated from Virginia Tech in May.
Going back to college age 33 isn’t easy, but it helps if you can count on the support of a loving family. Earl Cherry, his wife LuAnn, their children Bruce, Lucy Kate, and Emeline, and his mother Rachel of Elk Creek, Virginia were recognized as 2015 Family of the Year.
Alan and Faith Hicks, their daughters Amanda Clements and Heather Hicks of Crofton, Md., a sophomore majoring in civil engineering in the College of Engineering, and their nominator Mikayla Meyer of Aurora, Colorado were recognized during the spring game as 2014 Family of the Year.
Erin Helbling of Warfield, Virginia credits her family as her foundation from Hokie Camp to service trips. She nominated them for Family of the Year and to her and her family’s surprise, they were chosen 2013 Family of the Year and recognized before a cheering crowd of thousands at Virginia Tech’s spring game.
